Windows 7 Install hangs  Black Screen  disk.sys
To All, this is not a question, but here is a solution to the Windows 7 install Black Screen issue I had. I would attempt to install Windows 7. Everytime, it would quit and the screen would go black, the hard drive light would flash very sporadically, the computer was still on but nothing on the screen. I tried installing in safe mode, doing that the last driver loaded was disk.sys and then about 20 seconds later, boom black screen. It turns out that it was a monitor issue. I hooked up another lcd and found that at the black screen it was actually waiting for me to click a selection for install options. The offending monitor was a Acer 17" (cheap monitor) using a vga cable, not dvi. I hooked up a Hanns G 22 using a vga and problem was solved. After the install was complete, I then hooked up the Acer and it worked properly. If you get the black screen, try another monitor if you have one available. Trying the install in 640x480 resolution did not resolve the issue either. Hope this helps someone!

I had a similar issue with an Envision monitor-- unplugging the monitor cable from the computer and plugging it back in activated the monitor, and the rest went fine! Lesson: no need to use an alt. monitor.

I had the same problem when installing Windows 7 with the black screen. It was just a monitor issue - I have dual monitors set up and as soon as I unplugged one from the computer the display popped up on the second monitor waiting for me to set my time zone preferences.
